Amanda Hammill

Amanda Hammill is an artist from Ancaster who works full-time at McMaster University. Amanda paints almost exclusively with alcohol ink on synthetic Yupo paper and ceramic tile."I love the unpredictability of this medium, the way the inks flow and blend as the alcohol evaporates, and the vibrant, saturated colour that remains".
Amanda works wet on wet for her soft flowing abstract pieces, and wet on dry when she is incorporating natural elements, such as trees, into her colourful ink backgrounds. She uses a variety of brush and air methods for moving the inks, quite often using her own breath, and a range of unconventional tools to create texture including, but certainly not limited to, sea sponges, toothbrushes, blades of grass, coffee stir sticks, and the sharp edges of old credit cards.
