Beverly Allen is a Burlington, Ontario based visual artist with a love of travel and adventure. She is a maker of marks - paintings, prints, drawings and books. Her current painting series reflects her love of the experimental and scientific nature of fluid acrylics and the

Her colour sense reflects her love of subtlety and rich, luminous colours. The areas of white paint bring serenity and a place to rest your eye to the work. When you look closely, the suggestions are there for cells, minerals, ice structures, or water in the wind. Toss in her appreciation for Chinese brush strokes and Asian art, as well as her love of water and you have a sense of this painter’s influences.

About the artist:

I’ve always been a traveler. Growing up in Chicago formed my love of architecture and water, two recurring themes in my art work. As a high school student, I was awarded a summer scholarship to the School of the Art Institute where I investigated different types of art. After receiving an honours degree in Fine Arts/Studio Art from the University of California, Los Angeles, I began a masters in printmaking, but withdrew after a year to make my living producing serigraphs. Life intervened and less artistic jobs followed. I have studied with many well known artists including Garner Tullis, Robert Kitaj, Joe Fleming and Gary Smith.

Over the past 5 years, I have returned to full time painting. A frequent traveler, my photographs are often the starting point for my paintings. I want the viewer to enter the painting and form their own conclusions. My figures are often shadows or stylized forms that could be anyone. My colours are frequently soft and luminous, reflecting skies and water. The new series “On White” explores the universe one cell at a time.
